One of the most common questions we get here at Solar Five is “how long does it really take to go solar?” It makes sense that people are anxious about the timeline: some are ready to see significant savings on their bills, others want to take this major step toward reducing their carbon footprint, and we know that even more simply don’t have time to wait around while companies and contractors get their stuff together. We are proud to offer our customers a 12-Week installation guarantee on their custom-built solar power system. We can make this commitment to our customers because we’ve built a company that is customer-focused, values-driven, locally grown, and large enough to meet the demands of our customers. What could the 12-Week Guarantee mean for your home and project?
A Sample Timeline
Maybe you’ve been reading our blog for a while, monitored our Facebook posts, talked with friends about solar panels on their property and even researched other, nationally based, solar companies. You’ve decided to make it happen. You’re going solar. Now what?
Well, if you choose Solar Five, the first thing you do is fill out a little information (or call us at 781-301-7233) and we schedule a free, no-obligation at-home assessment. These assessments can be performed within a week of your reaching out, which again shortens the ultimate timeline of your project. During that time, we examine your property, listen to you about what you need and expect for your energy needs, then give you more information about our company and how we can help. National companies with crews that are spread out all over the region may need to book your appointment weeks away. Or, they may simply look at a satellite photo your property and, without seeing it physically, decide that your property is ineligible for solar and never actually get in touch with you. If you reach out, we’ll assess your property using various online tools and ensure you are responded to and explained why it does or does not work. And 9 out of 10 times, we’ll be able to come out to meet with you.
After your assessment, we present you with options for financing your new system and continue to educate you on what it means to make the switch to solar. We are partnered with an array of banks and organizations to help you make the right decision for your needs, including the state-run Mass Solar Loan program. Once financing is in place, we are able to green-light to project and we’re ready to really get started.
So is that all part of the 12-Week Guarantee?
No. The 12-Week Guarantee starts after your system has been designed by our team and signed off by you. After we green-light your project, our expert technicians will come to your home for a home audit, which is a 90-minute visit to take specific measurements of your home so we have the precise data we need to design a system that is custom-fit for your property. We don’t try to jam the same-sized systems on all sorts of different houses like other companies do. We will take your measurements, create a design, submit it to our engineers for their approval, and then present them to you for a final sign-off. Once you approve and we write up the change order and submit it to our manufacturers, the 12-Week Guarantee begins.
What Can I Expect During Those 12 Weeks?
By choosing a locally-based, locally-crewed company, one of the first things you can expect from us is regular check-ins and full availability to you during your 12-week window. We will be in contact with you at least once a week to let you know the status of your project, even if there isn’t anything new going on. We know that waiting can sometimes be frustrating.
Depending on how you choose to finance your system, paperwork and other sign-offs may be asked of you. The 12-Week Guarantee is only possible with the full and attentive participation of the homeowner. And don’t worry—we are here to help you navigate all of the information that will be coming your way. We’ll give you a heads up when stuff is coming, we’ll schedule calls to help clarify things, and we’ll be sure to stay on top of stuff so you know what’s due and when. As long as you’re a full partner with us, we’ll keep the timeline steady and moving. Rarely, a homeowner will let things lapse and paperwork go unsigned for significant periods of time, even with our guidance. When this happens, we cannot honor the guarantee.
Once we get your system manufactured, we pull the necessary permits in your town and schedule a time for installation! Then it’s time to test it and prepare it for interconnection: the moment we switch on your system and give you the energy freedom you’ve been look for. From first contact to system turn-on, the entire process can be as quick as 14 weeks, if not faster.
