In celebration of Earth Day 2018, team members Jake and Jason went out to Willett Elementary School in Attleboro, Massachusetts to give a lesson on energy conservation and a drone demonstration. 200 excited 3rd and 4th graders joined us for a morning of science and engineering exploration, thinking about conservation, and considering how they can make small changes that will make a big difference! Thanks to the gorgeous weather that morning, we were able to take our presentation outside and fully enjoy the sunshine. A perfect spring day could not be a better backdrop for a conversation about the importance of energy conservation and renewable energy.
As a value-driven company, we sincerely believe that one of the ways we build a better world with cleaner energy is by introducing young people to solar in fun, educational ways. We started our presentation at Willett Elementary with facts about the sun and how the sun’s energy reaches Earth. This was the perfect foundation for a discussion about solar energy and the benefits of using renewable energy for homes and businesses. Energy conservation was also a priority for our presentation. We talked about practicing positive energy habits at home and making small changes that can make a difference over time. They were able to take those tips and best practices home to their parents with a helpful worksheet.
The coolest part of the day was our drone demonstration. Students got to watch first hand as we showed off how we use drones to survey rooftops and perform assessments to prepare our installations. Technology is important for identification and qualification of households that are switching to solar. Using the drones allows us to safely and accurately get more information.
The students at Willett were left with a small homework assignment: design a t-shirt that demonstrates and encourages energy conservation. The two most creative designers will have their t-shirts created! We look forward to seeing what clever, interesting designs they come up with!
We are grateful to Willett Elementary School for hosting our team last week and letting us spend time with their engaging and wonderful students. Already a recipient of a $500 donation from our High Five Initiative, which they used for a field trip to the Mystic Seaport, we’re proud to have developed a strong relationship with the school and look forward to working with them again in the future. Community is one our five Core Values and we enjoy partnering with the people and places that make New England a wonderful place to live and work.
Looking for ways to make a difference in your energy consumption? We’d love to talk to you about how switching with Solar Five can impact your personal budget, the community where you live and our planet at large. One decision, lots of opportunity for positive change. Get in touch with us today.
